Drexel University and the School District (District) had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), dated April 19, 2018 (2018 MOU), for the period April 19, 2018 through June 30, 2024, in connection with the establishment of a two-school campus for Powel School and Science Leadership Academy Middle School (SLAMS).
The District seeks authorization from the Board to renew the MOU for continued partnership with Drexel University and further support this valuable K-8 pipeline in West Philadelphia. While the District maintains control of academic, climate, enrollment, staffing, vision setting and overall operational functions within the shared two-school building, the MOU helps to define roles, supports and ongoing collaborative efforts between parties and is aligned to Priority Area #2: Partner with Families and Community.
