| | | | | | | | | Description:
The School District of Philadelphia (the District) provides written and oral communication to families in their primary or chosen language, and provides translation and interpretation services to effectively support families who are non-English speaking or Limited English Proficient (LEP). The selected vendors will provide oral interpretation and/or document translation services in more than 200 languages, including the top nine languages in the District, which include Albanian, Arabic, Cambodian (Khmer), Chinese, French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese, in addition to services the District currently has in place. With the recently adopted Board Policy 139, which supports coordinating all efforts related to language access within the District in order to communicate effectively, we have experienced an increase in the number of translations and interpretations occurring. As a result, the District seeks authorization to extend the existing contract period and increase contractor compensation to sustain district-wide language access services.
This contract amendment aligns with Guardrail 1, to further promote the goal of creating safe and welcoming schools for all students and families, by providing language accessibility services for parents and guardians whose primary language is not English.
