 Description:
Star Assessments are short tests that provide teachers with learning data. Star tests are computer adaptive, which means they adjust to each answer the student provides. Star Assessments are used to monitor student growth throughout the year to estimate students' understanding of state standards and predict students' performance on the state assessment. Teachers analyze the data they get from Star Assessments to learn what students already know and what they are ready to learn next, to monitor student growth, and to determine which students may need additional help. By pinpointing exactly what each student knows, teachers can personalize students' practice to keep them advancing.

Students are screened at least three times per year to determine academic status against grade-level standards. Star Assessments have been helpful with identifying gaps in achievement for District students and determining the appropriate tiered supports to address their needs. Star features reliable predictive statistics, linkages PA Core and learning progressions for detailed teacher instructional planning guidance. Star Assessments are heavily researched and scientifically proven to help teachers guide each student on his or her unique path to mastery. Evidence provided through the Federal Governments What Works Clearinghouse indicates Renaissance STAR is precise enough to use in Math/Reading as the basis for decisions concerning individual students.
