The College Board expands student access to higher education opportunities. The company will provide School District of Philadelphia students in grades 9 through 11 with the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) and students in grade 12 with the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). In addition, College Board will provide students participating in Advanced Placement classes (AP) with the assessment for the course and professional development for teachers and administrators.
During the 2019-2020 school year, over 30,000 students across the District participated in the PSAT and SAT exams free of charge to them. This opportunity provided students with early exposure to college readiness exams and college preparedness. In addition, students received free personalized online resources and practice exams based on their SAT/PSAT scores. The PSAT results also assisted schools in identifying students with the potential to pass Advanced Placement courses and score a three or higher out of five on an AP exam, which qualifies them to receive college credits. High schools across the District offer students a variety of AP options. PSAT results have shown an increase in the number of students demonstrating AP potential. The programs provided by The College Board also will continue to assist the District in preparing students to take and pass AP exams.
