Action under consideration

 The Administration recommends that the Board of Education authorize The School District of Philadelphia as Lessee, through the Superintendent or his designee, to execute and perform a lease agreement, subject to funding, as follows:

 With:
University City Science Center, or its affiliate 

 Purpose: 

To lease a portion of a building located at 3600 Market Street for use by Science Leadership Academy -- Middle School until the completion of the new SLA-MS and Powel school building

 Description:

The Office of Real Property has identified a need to enter into a First Amendment and Extension of the Lease Agreement with University City Science Center or its affiliates for Science Leadership Academy – Middle School (“SLAMS”) for a six (6) month term.   Drexel University, or its affiliates is constructing a building and grounds for SLAMS to relocate its educational program and will deliver same to The School District of Philadelphia on or before December 31, 2020.  Per the agreement, Drexel University must cover half the monthly rental rate until the new building is completed.  Drexel is contributing an amount of  $421,296 for  the costs of the First Amendment and Extension for a six month period.  Drexel will reimburse the School District on a monthly basis in the amount of $35,108.  If Drexel does not complete the new school building and deliver it to the School District on or before December 31, 2020, then the School District will renew the Lease of University City Science Center for SLAMS for an additional six (6) months and Drexel will continue to reimburse the School District for fifty percent of the rent.
