 The Administration recommends that the Board of Education authorize The School District of Philadelphia, through the Superintendent or his designee, to execute and perform a contract, subject to funding, as follows: 

AARP Foundation 

To provide volunteers to support K-3 teachers at participating District elementary schools during the daily literacy block

 Start date: 7/1/2020

 End date: 6/30/2021
 Compensation not to exceed: $638,565 
Up to 40 District public elementary schools across the city who elect to participate.  If number of applicant schools exceeds capacity, schools with lowest PSSA-ELA scores will receive priority.

AARP Foundation will recruit, screen, train, place, and manage Experience Corps volunteers who will provide high-quality, school-based support for K-3 teachers and students at up to 40 District public elementary schools during the 2020-2021 academic year.  The primary objective of this project is to help school principals and the teachers implement early literacy supports that will allow all students to achieve grade-level reading and writing proficiency by age eight, which is a significant predictor of long-term academic success.
